Located a few minutes walk from Kita-shinagawa Station in the Kita-shinagawa shotengai, this cafe is a bookworm’s dream. The brightly lit wooden modern interior is very refreshing. Moreover, visitors can read any of the shelves upon shelves of books located in the cafe, making it a great place to read or study. There are a wide variety of books on the second floor. However, what makes this book cafe special is that the books are organized to represent different parts of Japan. After all, the name of the cafe, KAIDO, pays homage to Shinagawa’s past as an inn on the Tokaido, the main road between Edo, as Tokyo was known then, and Kyoto during the Edo period. Here, the books are on topics from everything from Oita dialect to the history of Ina town in Nagano Prefecture. Interesting books, great foods and drinks, as well as free wi-fi all are reasons why KAIDO is a great cafe.
